Overview

Soirée Répertoire – Polyeucte is a special repertory evening celebrating Pierre Corneille's masterpiece through a staged lecture-oratorio accompanied by live music. Introduced by a presentation of the play, the event invites audiences to rediscover one of the defining tragedies of French classical theatre.

As part of its 2026–2027 season, the Comédie-Française presents a Soirée Répertoire dedicated to Polyeucte, one of Pierre Corneille's greatest tragedies. Rather than a full theatrical staging, the work is presented as a lecture-oratorio, combining dramatic reading with live musical accompaniment.

The evening begins with an introduction to the play before the performance itself, offering audiences historical and literary context. This format highlights the beauty of Corneille's poetic language while emphasizing the spiritual and emotional power of the drama. The repertory evenings are designed to showcase landmark works of French theatre in an intimate and accessible form.
