Verbier Festival 2022
The classical world's most anticipated, highest-altitude festival of the year returned in summer 2022. The Verbier Festival came back on July 15 – 31, 2022. It brought the biggest and brightest stars in classical music, revisiting favorite works and taking on brand-new repertoire in the storied Salle des Combins and Verbier Église. Beloved performers of Verbiers past are once again on the docket—alongside some exciting Verbier debuts—in this blockbuster event from the gorgeous Swiss Alps, where the only thing more breathtaking than the view is the music.
Grammy Award winning pianist, and audience favourite, Daniil Trifonov brings his sheer mastery and brilliant technique to the stage alongside a cohort of friends. Expect invigorating performances and astute interpretations of works by George Enescu, Mussorgski and Mendelssohn.
In Mussorgsky’s Songs and Dances of Death, Death is personified. Lullaby sees it cradle a sick baby to eternal sleep against its mother’s will; in Serenade it’s a lover waiting at the window of a dying young woman; Trepak is the folk dance into which it draws a drunk peasant lost in a blizzard, before he dies to dreams of summer; as The Field Marshall it gathers fallen troops from a battlefield. There’s then more folky music in the fourth and final movement of Mendelssohn’s teenage Piano Quartet in F minor of 1823.
