Overview

“I was once destined for the life of a sailor,” Debussy wrote, “but I still have a great passion for the sea.” The French composer honors that lifelong passion in La mer — three shimmering musical portraits of rippling waves, brewing storms and the sun’s celestial journey across the sky.

Violinist Karen Gomyo, who brings “an unbroken wave of controlled energy” (The Times) to every performance, returns to the DSO to perform Samy Moussa’s “Adrano.” Inspired by the Sicilian town of the same name, Moussa’s concerto evokes the ancient rituals thought to summon Adranus, the god of fire.

Reconnect with your childhood while experiencing Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice — immortalized by Mickey Mouse in Disney’s Fantasia — the cautionary tale about a magic spell that goes horribly wrong.
