Fantasia Orchestra’s principal players team up with pianist Harry Baker for an intimate evening crossing classical, jazz and tango. Discover bold new arrangements of Piazzolla’s Libertango, a Gershwin song suite and Bernstein’s Somewhere, framed by Walker’s lyrical String Quartet and Shostakovich’s powerful Piano Quintet in G minor.In the intimate ambience of an upstairs venue, Fantasia Orchestra’s principal players join forces with pianist and arranger Harry Baker for a genre-defying exploration. At the programme’s core is a piano quintet—Baker’s expressive piano alongside a string quartet—featuring his fresh interpretations of Piazzolla’s Libertango, a suite of Gershwin favourites and Bernstein’s poignant Somewhere. These are balanced by George Walker’s richly lyrical String Quartet No.1 “Lyric” and the dramatic intensity of Shostakovich’s Piano Quintet in G minor. Baker’s versatility—honed between jazz clubs and concert halls—imbues every phrase with rhythmic flair, while the strings deliver vibrant, dynamic textures. The result is an evening of adventurous programming, where classical tradition meets jazz spontaneity and tango pulse in an intimate, engaging performance.
