In Alonzo King’s own words, “everything that exists in nature is seeking to return to its source. The child runs to its parents, and the river seeks the ocean. Salmon return from the sea to reach their original spawning grounds.” Human beings have one thing in common – we want to avoid pain and suffering and we want a happiness that is ever fulfilling and never goes stale. Joy is the goal.

Following the Subtle Current Upstream is about the inward journey back to ourselves that brings permanent happiness. This journey is far from easy; often, it is a hard swim upstream. King says, “there is the subtle inner instinct that pulls the salmon back home. For humans, that call is intuition”.

José Limón’s Chaconne is a masterclass in sculptural movement and musical sensitivity. Created in 1942, this solo distills the essence of Limón’s artistry—fluid yet commanding, deeply expressive yet structured with restraint. Set to Bach’s transcendent Chaconne, the piece transforms the music’s sweeping grandeur into a powerful exploration of strength, grace, and humanity.

A distilled tragedy told through the formal elegance of Renaissance court dance, The Moor’s Pavane is José Limón’s timeless masterwork. Inspired by Shakespeare’s Othello, the ballet focuses on four characters—the Moor, his wife, his friend, and the friend’s wife—whose interactions reveal a devastating story of jealousy and betrayal. Set to stately Baroque music by Henry Purcell, this haunting, intimate work strips the narrative to its emotional core, offering a powerful meditation on human vulnerability and fate.
