About

John Osborne (born May 16, 1972 in Sioux City, Iowa) is an American tenor opera singer.

His musical career began at Simpson College in Indianola, where he graduated in 1993. His operatic debut came in 1994, when he sang the title role in Giancarlo Menotti's The Saint of Bleecker Street.

In 1994, Osborne won the prestigious Metropolitan Opera vocal competition. He made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1996, performing Richard Strauss's Salome. Since then, he has graced the stage with well-known roles, including Don Ottavio in Mozart's Don Giovanni, Count Almaviva in Rossini's The Barber of Seville, and Arnold Melchthal in Rossini's Wilhelm Tell.

In 2011, Osbourne made his debut at the Promenade concerts with a performance of the opera "William Tell" conducted by Antonio Pappano. He also participated in the audio recording of the opera with Pappano.

In 2017, Osborne was awarded the Franco Abbiati Award for Outstanding Contribution to the World of Opera in 2016.
